About City
London is the capital and largest city of England and the United Kingdom. The River Thames travels through the city.
London is a leading global city. It is the world's largest financial center alongside New York, and is home to the headquarters of more than 100 of Europe's 500 largest companies. It has the most international visitors of any city in the world.
The World Nuclear Association Symposium will be held at Central Hall Westminster. Many of London’s top attractions lie only a short distance from here, such as Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square, Buckingham Palace and St. James’s Park. The location is also within London’s “theatreland” and close to many of the capital’s best pubs, clubs, restaurants and shops.
London has a lot of choice when it comes to nightlife, from live music to pubs, clubs and cocktail bars – many of which are free entry. It is often possible to get discounted tickets for West End shows by buying them on the day. There are also many affordable fringe performances and open-mic nights from up-and-coming performers.
London has more art galleries and museums than any other UK city. The major museums, such as the British Museum, The National Gallery, the Science Museum and Tate Modern all offer free entry. London is also home to the largest library in the world, known as the British Library, which students can use along with Senate House Library and Queen Mary's libraries.
Oxford Street is famous for its flagship high street stores and it’s only a 15-minute tube journey from the Mile End campus. Alternatively there are lots of shopping centres and markets to explore, from Camden Market to Portobello Road.
The United Kingdom has an extremely variable temperate maritime climate and is subject to rainfall and frequent weather changes. Temperatures range from 0 degrees (Celsius) in Winter to a high of 32 degrees in Summer. July is normally the warmest month in England.
There are more than 6,000 restaurants in London so you'll never be short of new places to eat. London boasts 55 Michelin Star restaurants and many celebrity chefs are based here, and there are plenty of good, cheaper options too.
